1. Treat mealtime like playtime 

Mealtime can be a great opportunity to get your pet’s mind working! If you usually serve your pet’s food in a regular bowl, mix it up sometimes with puzzle feeders. Using treat-dispensing toys also encourages your pets to work for their food without demanding intense exercise. 

2. Encourage sniffing adventures

Did you know that sniffing things out is a stimulating exercise for your pet? You can try doing a mini treasure hunt with your senior pet and hide different treats around the house. 

3. Set up a view for people watching 

Observing the outside world is enriching for pets of all ages. Try setting up your dog’s bed or cat’s perch near windows in your home. This can be even more impactful for your senior pet that spends most of their time indoors.

Spending time with others is already a form of enrichment. If your senior pet has always been a social animal, keep scheduling playdates with their friends. And when you’re at home, your pets already feel mentally and emotionally fulfilled when they spend time with their parent. Don’t forget to hang out with your senior pet!
