Did you know that the Scottish Fold cat... 

Is not born with ear folds? 

Contrary to their name, Scottish Fold kittens are born with completely straight ears. They only start to develop their trademark folded ears at three or four weeks if they carry the gene. 

Descends from one cat? 

Scottish Folds originated from Scotland and their history can be traced to one white barn cat with folded ears named Susie. 

Could classify as a “shadow” cat?” 

Like a shadow, this cat tends to follow their humans around. They like sitting in the same room, either on their human’s lap or simply observing and being around their company. 

Is known for its Buddha sit? 

These cats love to sit flat on their rear ends with their hind legs stretched out and paws on their belly. Their other favorite sitting position is the otter pose: standing up on their hind legs similar to a meerkat or otter! 

Has celebrity parents? 

Taylor Swift has two Scottish Fold cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson. Ed Sheeran is also another proud pop star Scottish Fold parent. 

Communicates in softer ways? 

Don’t expect a Scottish Fold to meow through the night. These cats are more fond of using little chirps or purrs to get your attention. Some might also use more body language and would rather stare at you, rub against your leg if they want something! 

Could be prone to joint problems? 

The same genetic mutation that makes these cats' ears fold can also affect cartilage elsewhere in the body. Some Scottish Folds unfortunately experience stiff joints and abnormal bone growth that makes it hard to jump or move.
