How to Train your Super Pet: Amihan Season Edition

Are there tips and tricks when training your pet during this time of the year?

The end of the year means that the country is in the Amihan Season. This means months of cooler temperatures and less rainfall!

While we’ve done countless articles about caring for your pet in the rainy season, what should pet parents watch out for during the Amihan season? Are there tips and tricks when training your pet during this time of the year?

Tip # 1 Take advantage of the outdoors!

Less rain means more chances to train your dog outside! You can practice leash walking or even games like fetch or agility tricks that require more space.

Tip # 2 Try building your dog’s endurance!

Your dogs are less likely to overheat during this time of the year, which means it’s safer to have slightly longer training sessions. This is the perfect season to take your dog on longer walks or push through with your plans to go on a hiking or beach trip with your pet.

Tip # 3 Go socialize!

Cooler weather plus the upcoming holidays means that there are tons of pet events and meet-ups happening! Socialization is a crucial aspect of raising a healthy and happy dog. Meeting new dogs in new environments can help train your pet to better handle new situations.

Tip # 4 Groom with the wind!

Amihan winds can carry some dust and pollen that could irritate your dog. After training time outdoors, make sure you also wipe your dog’s face and paws. An area that should be groomed more thoroughly too is your pet’s ears. Experts recommend checking and cleaning your pet’s ears weekly during this season.

Tip # 5 Know your pet’s limits!

While your dogs may have more energy, it’s still best to keep training sessions short and focused (a maximum of 10 minutes for puppies and 20 minutes for adult dogs). Keep in mind that in cooler temperatures, your dog still needs lots of water and rest too.
