Park Safety 101: Things to Do Before Going to the Paw Park

Whether you’re a first-time or a returning visitor to our Paw Parks, here are some safety tips to keep in mind!

A highlight about being a Super Pets Club member is access to SM Paw Parks nationwide! To ensure everyone gets the best Paw Park experience, the safety of our pets (and pet parents) are our number one priority. Whether you’re a first-time or a returning visitor to our Paw Parks, here are some safety tips to keep in mind!

  1. Complete your pet’s health check

Things to ask:

  • Are my pet’s vaccinations up to date?

  • Have I given my pet their flea or tick prevention?

  • Is my pet feeling 100%? If they’re feeling under the weather, we’d recommend rescheduling your Paw Park visit for another day.

  1. Pack your pet’s essentials

Things to ask:

  • Do I have enough water, food, poop bags to last the day?

  • Did I pack my pet’s carrier or leash? Even if there’s an off-leash area at the Paw Parks, we strongly suggest bringing your pet’s leash so you have it on hand.

  1. Know your pet’s limits

Things to ask:

  • How does my pet feel when we get closer to the Paw Park? What’s their body language like?

  • Do they seem anxious? While it could be good to push your pets a bit out of their comfort zone, it’s best to leave when they’re overwhelmed. If your pet has a hard time staying calm in a situation, it’s better to walk away then force them to tough it out.

  1. Keep park etiquette in mind

Things to ask:

  • Did I clean up after my pet during our time at the park?

  • Has my pet been in social situations before? Before jumping into the Paw Park, it might be best to try exposing your pet to smaller social situations. Are they reactive or aggressive when with other pets or people?

Let’s work together to keep our Paw Parks safe for all members of our Super Pets Club family!
