How to Super Proof your Home for the Rainy Season
Bringing a pet into a household means adjusting certain details that could be potentially dangerous for your cats or dogs. This becomes even more crucial during the rainy season.
A common rite of passage for parents is learning how to “baby-proof” their homes. For pet parents, it’s mastering the art of “pet-proofing.” Bringing a pet into a household means adjusting certain details that could be potentially dangerous for your cats or dogs. This becomes even more crucial during the rainy season.
Here are a few tips on how to pet-proof!
Prevent slips and falls
While there’s a saying that cats always land on their feet, that doesn’t mean they can’t get injured. Constant rain puts you and your pets at higher risk for potential slips. Try adding non-slip mats near entrances and wipe floors right away when rain gets in.
Check wires and cords
Let’s avoid any electrical hazards! We suggest using socket covers or keeping extension cords and wires off the floors in case of potential flooding.
Elevate important supplies
Speaking of floods, it’s better to play it safe and place important pet supplies on an elevated surface. Even without floods, this tip can keep your belongings out of reach from cockroaches and insects that are more active during the rainy season.
Secure your space
Inspect your doors, windows, and gates. Strong winds and sudden thunder can frighten your pets and might trigger them to run away.
Use battery-powered lights or flashlights
Keep these in handy in case of a brownout or blackout. We recommend avoiding candles which can get knocked over easily by your pets.
Lock cabinets to medicine and cleaning supplies
The rainy season keeps all of us indoors – and makes pets feel restless. It’s possible that this pent-up energy can make your pet paw open cabinets or chew on things like pill bottles.
Prepare an emergency kit
While we always hope for the best, it’s always ideal to prepare for the worst.
