Rainy Season Care Tips for Your Super Pet
Here are a few important care tips for any pet parent navigating this rainy time of the year.
In our country’s climate, it’s very important that we know how to take care of our pets in the hottest and also the wettest seasons. Here are a few important care tips for any pet parent navigating this rainy time of the year.
Care Tip 1: Check that your pet’s vaccinations and deworming are up to date
Pets are more susceptible to illnesses in the rainy weather. Getting their scheduled shots is an important way to boost their immunity.
Care Tip# 2: Dry your pet if they get caught under the rain
Always remember to towel dry your pet first. Afterwards, you can use a pet-specific dryer or hairdryer but make sure it’s on the lowest setting. Our pets are more sensitive to temperature and can get hurt if you use hot air.
Care Tip # 3: Protect their paws
Did you know that your pet’s paws are the most common site for infection? When drying your pet, make sure you also check the area between their toes. Depending on your pet’s comfort level, you can even try out using pet shoes or booties!
Care Tip # 4: Keep food and water under the shade
During this time of the year, it’s best to have your pet’s meals under a covered, sheltered area. We also recommend using a raised feeding stand or placing bowls on dry mat to avoid contact with a possible wet floor. Rain contamination can put your pet at risk of getting minor to very serious health complications.
Care Tip # 5: Avoid puddles and stagnant water
No matter how much your pet loves splashing in puddles, try to hold them back. These puddles can unfortunately carry parasites or bacteria—a main culprit for leptospirosis.
Care Tip # 6: Keep them active
Like us pet parents, pets shouldn’t go long without movement or activity. There are plenty of ways to keep your pets stimulated and energized at home! Check out our past Super Pets article for some suggestions!
