Did you know that the corgi….

  • Has a fairy saddle?

Legends in Wales say that corgis were battle steeds of fairies and elves! Some call the lighter fur on their shoulders their “fairy saddle mark.”

  • Has probably the greatest celebrity endorsement?

A big reason why corgis became world-famous is Queen Elizabeth II. From her first corgi in 1944, she went on to have over 30 corgis throughout her lifetime.

  • Has two different breeds?

There are the Pembroke Corgis and the Cardigan Corgis. Pembrokes are corgis with short or nearly absent tails and known for their fox-like faces. Cardigans are usually bigger, have longer tails and rounder ears.

  • Has a champion dog from the Philippines?

Last 2023, a Pembroke Corgi named Dalbong made history as the World Winner at the World Dog Show in Switzerland! With the award, Dalbong became the first Philippine dog to win a World Winner title.

  • Has a signature move?

Have you heard of a “sploot?” This is when a dog lies on their bellies with their hind legs stretched out flat behind them. Splooting is comfortable for dogs and helps them stretch their legs and hips! While other dogs sploot too, corgis made this pose famous.

  • Has a buoyant butt?

While corgis are known for their adorable, fluffy butts, their behinds also help them float in the water. Their body shape also helps keep their bodies leveled and balanced while paddling!

  • Is among the smartest dog breeds?

Trainers have found that corgis can learn new commands pretty quickly. They’re also great in problem solving, reading human cues, and independent thinking. However, experts also advise to train your corgi early. These dogs are very smart, but can also be very bossy.
