Super Breed Feature: Siamese Cat

Did you know that the Siamese cat is actually a Southeast Asian breed? Before they stepped foot in Europe and even lived in the White House, these cats originally hailed from Thailand. Check out this month’s article for more fun facts about Siamese cats!

Did you know that the Siamese cat…

Is one of the oldest cat breeds?

Descriptions of Siamese cats in books can be traced back all the way to 1350 A.D.

Is from Thailand?

Thailand was formerly known as Siam, also the inspiration behind the cat’s name. Legend says that Siamese cats were seen as sacred and used to guard Buddhist temples. Since they’re already used to the warm tropical climate of Southeast Asia, it’s no surprise that these cats can adjust well to the Philippines.

Is also called a meezer?

Siamese cats are vocal cats and love chatting with their pet parents. They’re capable of all kinds of sounds from meowing and some even say, meezing.

Is relatively easy to groom?

Like other shorthair cat breeds, Siamese cats usually take care of their coats. Pet parents say that brushing their coats just once a week can already be enough for grooming.

Has natural blue eyes?

All purebred Siamese cats have blue eyes due to a genetic trait. Breeders usually check these blue eyes to determine if a Siamese cat is up to dog show standards!

Is the cat world’s social butterfly?

Unlike the usual cat stereotype of being cold and distant, Siamese cats are known to love companionship. Some even call them “velcro cats” since they love sticking to their favorite humans. This quality makes Siamese cats great family pets and cats that are more likely to get along with dogs too.

Needs constant stimulation?

These cats are intelligent and tend to get bored easily if left alone. If you’re considering becoming a parent to a Siamese cat, make sure to prioritize their mental enrichment. Puzzle feeders, interactive toys, scratching posts are effective for this breed.
